Tai Chi

Tibetan White Crane Qi Gong and 32 Movement Tai Chi

Why Tai Chi?

Tai chi is a gentle low-impact (and relaxing) discipline that has its roots in martial arts. It helps to improve coordination, balance, focus and breathing while teaching the student various movements that are elegant, flowing and meditative.

It is safe for people of all ages and is helpful for reducing stress and anxiety and enhancing moods. It is also safe on the joints and helps to increase energy while strengthening the muscles.  Studies have also shown it to be of benefit for people with chronic heart failure, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, fibromyalgia and depression.

From Harvard Women’s Health Watch – May 2009

“This gentle form of exercise can prevent or ease many ills of aging and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life.

Tai chi is often described as ‘meditation in motion,’ but it might well be called ‘medication in motion.’

There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many health problems. And you can get started even if you aren’t in top shape or the best of health.

Instructor Bio

“I enjoy practicing and teaching Tai Chi Chuan because it offers something unique in this fast paced society. Unlike most forms of western exercise where people are watching netflix on their phones and doing anything to distract their minds from what the body is doing, Tai Chi Chuan engages your body and mind. It teaches you to slow down, relax and to be aware, which results in a boosted immune system, radiant health and emotional peace. The movements are designed to massage your internal organs, expel toxins, increase flexibility and produce a relaxed state of mind.

From an early age I was always interested in alternative health and spirituality. In 1997,  I met the late grandmaster Sunyata Saraswati (author of Jewel in the Lotus) and began studying Tibetan, Taoist, Egyptian and Hindu systems of internal arts. From that experience, I learned many lifetimes worth of information and practices which sent me on my journey to seeking Shen Tao or the Spirit Way.”

Chi Kung

Chi Kung are exercises for your mind, body, and spirit. A literal translation of Chi Kung is “breath work”. A deeper meaning of Chi can be “internal energy”. Kung simply means “work” or “skill achieved through practice”. To draw it out and elaborate further Chi Kung is “skill achieved through practicing with our internal energy.”

Chi Kung can be soft, focusing on relaxing into alignment, or hard, learning how to tense the body while keeping proper alignment and timing. Through hard and soft practices we focus our mind to achieve better control of our bodies. When the two become connected seamlessly, this allows our spirit to shine through.

The goal of Chi Kung is to achieve this seamless connection. Along the way you will achieve benefits of fitness, health, relaxation, discipline, honor and finally an energized spirit.

Instructor Bio

Daniel Hyde has had a passion for martial arts since early on in life! He began his martial art practice in junior high. One of his friends at the time in gym class had exceptional fitness. When Daniel asked him what he did to get so good at running, push ups and other exercises he said “I practice karate 3 times a week, want to join me?” This began Daniel’s journey in the martial arts. He started off with his friend training in Karate and a few years later pursued Kwan Ying Dao Kung Fu, and Yang style Tai Chi Chuan under Dave Cial. Little did he know the profound impact these arts were going to have on his later endeavors.

Upon turning seventeen, he joined the Marine Corps Infantry as an Assaultman. The time he spent in Combat and rigorous military training tested his resolve physically and psychologically. To deal with the added stress he firmly established his Kung Fu and Tai Chi practice as a way to heal his body and mind through the struggles of military life.

After noticing distinct benefits to his overall health, he decided to study at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. While there, he met a great friend and mentor, Dr. B. Tony Zayner. Through Dr. Zayner he continued his growth and advancement in massage, healing and Yang Tai Chi Chuan.

Mr. Hyde completed his Associates Degree in Applied Sciences of Massage Therapy in August of 2011! With this he continues to spread the healing of the orient with many people.

Now residing in North Carolina, Mr. Hyde is teaching in Greensboro. He has always been ready to help all who came in contact with him, inside or outside of class. He is more than ready to share his experiences and healing with you and “y’all” fine people of North Carolina. 🙂

Tai Chi Chuan

Tai Chi Chuan is a slow moving and low impact exercise you can do no matter what your age. Practicing helps to rebuild your joints, strengthen your immunity, and help you maintain balance.

Tai Chi Chuan is a great tool to learn how to relax and realign your body in movement. One of the reasons it is usually called “meditation in movement”.
